From the records of Tarric Vethrin
I once saw a golem in the city hall who refused to speak to me. Not out of spite. Out of pause. The clerk beside him explained that he was currently “regenerating.” I asked if that meant he was tired. She didn’t laugh for a very long time.
Golems are no longer a spectacle in Elyndor. They are more like what happens when someone decides that humans, elves, or dwarves are simply too slow, and paperwork is far too nervous.
In smaller towns, they stand at entrances. In larger cities, they sit in administrative offices. Some assist with sorting applications. Some remind you that your form was filled out incorrectly. Very politely. Very definitively.
Most of them operate through memory crystals. They store tasks, routines, sometimes even something like… habit. No one calls it behavior. That would be impractical.
The problem is not that golems think. Most of the time, at least. The problem is that sometimes they stop considering you relevant.
And when a golem ignores you, there are surprisingly few people who can tell whether it is an error… or simply administration.
Personally, I have learned not to argue in such moments. Golems never lose their patience. They do not have any. And they are still made of stone. And in a head-to-stone situation – stone always wins. Always.
Admittedly, not all of them are made of stone. Some are made of pure magic, but that is a completely different story.
