The Matter of Safe Roads

From the records of Tarric Vethrin

There is a road south of Valthera that is considered safe.

That is usually the moment I start to worry.

Safety in Elyndor is an interesting concept. It usually only means that no one has died loudly enough recently to justify an official reassessment.

Adventurers love these roads. So do merchants. Both for different reasons. One group hopes nothing happens. The other hopes they react quickly enough if something does.

The shard band helps with that. Mostly. Sometimes it does not.

When magic is depleted, even the best systems become very honest. Communication cuts out. Target assistance goes silent. And suddenly, you are just as informed as someone without expensive equipment.

I once met a mercenary who said he trusted his band more than his own eyes.

Two days later, he was using neither. I am not sure whether that was a lesson. More likely a statistic.

The bandage over his eyes suited him surprisingly well. Perhaps a new fashion trend. Impractical, but nobility has never cared much for practicality.
