From the Writings of Tarric Vethrin
There are people who never seem to do anything, yet everything somehow goes exactly the way they want.
Those people usually end up ruling kingdoms.
Well…
Lucryss is not one of them.
He is, quite obviously, the heir to the throne of Elyndor. A prince. And whenever he chooses to play the game of nobility, he plays it remarkably well. He never has to raise his voice or issue commands. More often than not, a single calm glance is enough to end a discussion before it has truly begun.
It takes quite a lot, however, before Lucryss is willing to play that game at all.
Not because he does not care about Elyndor.
Quite the opposite.
Few people care more deeply about the future of the realm than he does. He simply knows that its future will not be decided by arguing with some count about trade regulations or explaining to yet another duchess why he still has no intention of marrying her daughter.
Lucryss is one of those elves who prefers action over ceremony. He likes getting his hands dirty. He is happiest with a sword in his hand and mud beneath his boots, whether he is hunting monsters or training alongside Caelen.
Though I am quite certain he would never refuse a few more quiet moments with the man he loves.
A court mage serving his former teacher, Argus.
The two of them are probably the worst-kept secret romance in all of Elyndor.
The only reason it remains a secret is because Lucryss has no desire to see some overly ambitious noble hire an assassin to go after his beloved. Not that Miriana would ever allow such a thing to happen.
“I simply have no desire to clean noble blood off the floor. It smells.”
That was Lucryss’ explanation when I asked him about it.
Personally, I suspect he simply wants to keep one part of his life to himself.
Being a young elf, he is still treated like a child by much of elven society.
That is probably why he spends so much time at The Hanged Elf. Usually with company.
If you count Caelen—Commander of the Templars and his personal bodyguard—that would actually be every single time.
Lucryss enjoys listening to my stories.
And honestly…
I cannot blame him for that.
He is no child, no matter what the elves of the realm might believe. Beneath all that “I really don’t care” lies a man who will one day make an excellent king.
The kind of king who could lead Elyndor into a more just age.
Exactly the kind this kingdom needs.
But then again…
What do I know?
I merely tell the stories.
